Voting is a fundamental right in our democracy. Every eligible Ohioan should be able to cast their ballot without facing unnecessary obstacles. Issue 3 proposes adding a strict photo ID requirement to the constitution of Ohio. This change would make it harder to fix problems if they arise and could block many voters from participating. Our constitution should protect core rights, not limit them.

Why Issue 3 Creates Barriers to Voting

Issue 3 would require voters to show a specific form of photo ID to vote. While this might sound reasonable, it ignores the real challenges many Ohioans face in getting or renewing these IDs. Even when IDs are technically free, the process can be difficult for many people.

Seniors, people with disabilities, low-income residents, and rural voters often struggle to get the required ID. They may lack transportation to ID offices, have limited hours to visit, or face confusing paperwork. These obstacles can decide whether someone votes or stays home.

For example, a senior living in a rural part of Geauga County might have to travel far to get an ID. If they cannot make the trip, they lose their chance to vote. This is not fair or just.

We all want secure elections. But security should not come at the cost of access. There are ways to keep elections safe without locking voters out.

The Constitution Should Protect Rights, Not Limit Them

Real Challenges for Many Ohio Voters

How We Can Ensure Every Eligible Voter Can Participate
