Statement from Janet Carson, Chair of the Geauga County Democratic Party, Regarding Ramaswamy Campaign Ad Featuring Dr. Amy Acton’s Biological Mother:
“Every child that is abused by the parents or adults entrusted to love and care for them carries the scars of that betrayal for the rest of their lives. Dr. Amy Acton, candidate for Ohio Governor, whose abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfather as a 12-year-old child, necessitated her and her brother’s removal from their home, is an example of the strength, resilience and grit of abuse survivors.
When Dr. Acton came to Geauga County last Saturday to meet voters, her prescriptions to strengthen Ohio’s public education system, increase access to healthcare, address the affordability crisis and restore economic opportunity for all citizens were a testament to her lifelong commitment to helping others, a commitment borne of her own journey out of abuse.
The Ramaswamy campaign made a grave error when it sought the testimonial of Dr. Acton’s biological mother, a broken woman who protected her daughter’s abuser and abandoned her children decades ago. As I write this statement, not one Republican office holder or candidate in the state of Ohio has condemned the Ramaswamy campaign’s elevation of a child abuser as a testimonial for his candidacy. That silence speaks volumes and Ohioans are listening.
Ohioans deserve a true leader as Governor of our great state. On November 3rd, they can choose Dr. Amy Acton as our next leader.”
