Repeal SB1

What is Ohio Senate Bill 1 (SB 1)? 

SB1 radically alters how Ohio’s public colleges and universities are allowed to operate AND what they’re allowed to teach. The restrictions could drive talented faculty and students out of Ohio to states with more supportive academic environments and will undermine the ability of Ohio's public universities to compete nationally and internationally.

• SB 1 is a censorship bill because it limits classroom discussions about undefined “controversial beliefs or policies” which could be interpreted to mean anything the State doesn’t agree with.

• SB 1 is an anti-union bill because it would limit collective bargaining tools such as the right to strike which may lead to unstable work conditions for university employees.

• SB 1 is an anti-diversity bill because it bans all efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion which reduces opportunities for marginalized students which may even apply to veterans and disabled students.
