Ohio Redistricting in Geauga

This week, the GOP-majority of the Ohio Redistricting Committee voted to adopt the Republicans’ proposed legislative maps as their working draft. Sadly but not surprisingly, based on partisan breakdowns these proposed maps appear drawn to favor the Republican party and their incumbents.

Following Wednesday’s meeting, ORC Co-Chair Leader Nickie Antonio released the following statement: “At first blush, it would appear that the maps introduced by Republicans today have been drawn to expand their supermajority and under the guise of protecting municipalities, pack Democrats into our largest cities for partisan gain.”

Proposed maps can be found at redistricting.ohio.gov/maps/view-maps.

The state constitution requires the Ohio Redistricting Commission to hold at least three public hearings around the state for the public to comment on the proposed maps. The ORC scheduled four meetings – two are here in Geauga County.

This is our time to fill the room and let the Republican-controlled Commission know Geauga voters demand the opportunity to participate in meaningful elections with districts that represent the will of the people! Citizens who wish to comment on the maps can submit testimony by completing a witness information form and sending the form to info@redistricting.ohio.gov in advance of testifying.
